Allan Vestal held degrees from DePauw University and Yale Law School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon graduating from law school in 1949, he joined the faculty of University of Iowa College of Law. He served as a professor at Iowa for his entire career. In 1964, he became a Commissioner of Uniform State Laws. He also served as chair of the Advisory Committee on Rules of the Iowa Supreme Court. His work focused on estates, civil procedure, and land-use planning. He died in 1983.
