Law Library Welcomes Dean Washburn

The Law Library is delighted to welcome Kevin K. Washburn, N. William Hines Dean and Professor of Law. 


Dean Washburn comes to Iowa Law from the University of New Mexico, where he served as dean of the law school from July 2009 to October 2012.  In August 2012, he was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the Assistant Secretary to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  He was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate in October 2012 and served until January 2016, when he returned to the UNM faculty as Regents Professor of Law.  He also served as a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, the Rosenstiel Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Arizona, and the Oneida Indian Nation Visiting Professor at the Harvard Law School.


He is a prolific scholar in the fields of Indian law, criminal law, and gambling law.  His faculty bibliography page is here.
