Continuing University of Iowa law students may use all of the online databases as you would during the regular semester, with the exceptions below. Students who graduate may continue to use some Law Library resources, such as the research guides. All-Access to Lexis Advance®

1Ls & 2Ls:  Students may continue to use their current Lexis Advance® ID for any purpose this summer– including work they perform at a law firm, corporation, or government agency. 

Lexis Advance ID all summer long for:

  • Academic, professional, and non-profit research
  • All legal content and news on their current law student ID
  • Unlimited hours-per-week

Graduating 3Ls may use their Lexis Advance® ID through the end of the calendar year.


3Ls who graduate in May will have unrestricted access to WestlawNext through October 2015. They will also have access to the West Legal Directory to assist with the job search for 18 months after graduation. 

1Ls and 2Ls will have limited access (40 hours/month) for June and July, unless they qualify for full access (taking summer courses, serving as an RA for a law professor for the summer, participating in an internship for course credit or required for graduation, researching for journal or law review), which is 180 hours/month. These students can extend their password for unrestricted access at

Bloomberg Law

Students may use Bloomberg Law accounts over the summer for any purpose, including work-related research or for job searching. No limits. No restrictions. Graduating students can continue to use their accounts for six months after graduation. Again, no limits or restrictions.
