Professor Bergsten received his B.S from Northwestern, his J.D. from Michigan, an M.A. from Georgetown, and an M.C.L. and D.C.L. from the University of Chicago Law School. His writing and teaching interests focus on commercial law and international trade law. He was a member of the College of Law faculty from 1961 to 1974.
After leaving the College of Law, Professor Bergsten served as the Senior Legal Officer and Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as Chief of the International Trade Law Branch of the Office of Legal Affairs. After leaving the UN, he joined the faculty at Pace Law School in 1992, where he has held Emeritus status since 1999. Professor Bergsten developed and administers the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition sponsored by Pace Law School and held annually in Vienna.
