The Law Library is located within the Boyd Law Building and encompasses almost 60% (76,591 sq. ft.) of the building on four floors. Floors 1, 2 and 3 contain the American law collection; Floor 1 also contains the Boyd Presidential Collection and Floor 2 also contains the Law and Popular Culture DVD Collection and the legal fiction collection. The curved outer walls have many windows and skylights that bring abundant natural light to three levels via three-story-tall atria. The Ground Floor contains the foreign, comparative and international law collections, federal government documents, and records, briefs and appendices for the District of Columbia Circuit Courts of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court. The library has an elevator to facilitate access.
An audiovisual room on the 1st Floor contains equipment and facilities for viewing and scanning the various formats of materials located therein, including US Supreme Court Records and Briefs, United Nations documents, NAACP Papers, and various federal and state primary and secondary sources. Access to the audiovisual room is by appointment only. The 1st Floor also houses a computer lab, one LexisNexis printer, and a group study room. Each floor is equipped with public computer workstations to facilitate access to the library catalog and the Internet, and includes public restrooms. A photocopier is located on the 2nd Floor. There are 380 individually assigned student study carrels located on the Ground, 1st and 3rd Floors, each equipped with laptop security hardware; open study tables dot the remainder of the open spaces in the library. University wireless access to the Internet is provided throughout the library.
The Circulation/Reserve Desk is located near the entrance to the library on the 2nd Floor of the Boyd Law Building. The Reference Desk is located in the middle of the same floor near several public computer workstations that facilitate legal research and reference assistance.
