Summer Research

Apr 16, 2019

If you are traveling over the summer, you may still use many of the Law Library’s electronic resources by accessing them through the Law Library’s Electronic Resources page. Resources accessed through this page will often require you to log in using your HawkID and password.

For more information on off-campus access to the Law Library’s electronic resources, please visit the Law Library’s Off-Campus Access to Electronic Resources page.

ORCID

Apr 16, 2019

Open Research and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a non-profit effort to address author name ambiguity by creating a central registry containing unique identifiers for authors. ORCID provides authors with a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes each author from other authors with similar names and supports automated linkages between an individual author’s identity and his or her work.

Authors may register for an ORCID identifier here. For assistance, please contact Amy Koopmann at amy-koopmann@uiowa.edu

Perma.cc

Apr 16, 2019

Perma.cc seeks to address the issues of link and reference rot by archiving online content and providing you with a permalink to that content.

The University of Iowa Law Library is a Perma.cc registrar, which provides faculty members with the ability to archive as many links as they need for their research and writing.

If you are interested in using Perma.cc, please contact Amy Koopmann at amy-koopmann@uiowa.edu so she can assist you in setting up an account. For more information, see Perma.cc’s Guide for Faculty.

Library Use at Other Universities

Apr 16, 2019

A number of academic law libraries throughout the United States allow faculty members from other law schools to use their facilities. Similarly, the university library systems of many universities provide access benefits to University of Iowa faculty members because of Iowa’s membership in the Big Ten Academic Alliance (formerly the Committee on Institutional Cooperation) and the Association of Research Libraries.

If you have travel plans this summer and will need to use the libraries at other universities, please contact Amy Koopmann at amy-koopmann@uiowa.edu in advance for more information or for assistance making arrangements with specific libraries.

PLI Plus

The Law Library now subscribes to PLI Plus, the Practising Law Institute’s research database. This database covers 25 practice areas and provides access to over 100,000 documents, including several practice-focused treatises; materials from PLI continuing legal education courses, including course handbooks, transcripts, and forms; the Answer Book series, which presents information in a question and answer format and includes practice pointers and checklists; and articles written by practitioners.

New HeinOnline Database: GAO Reports and Comptroller General Decisions

HeinOnline’s GAO Reports and Comptroller General Decisions database contains reports on audits, surveys, investigations, and evaluations of federal programs conducted by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO), as well as decisions and opinions issued by the Comptroller General. Other than restricted or classified documents, all published reports, testimonies, correspondence, and special publications are available in this database. While these documents are also available on the GAO website, HeinOnline provides enhanced metadata for an improved search experience.
