Russell Weintraub earned a bachelor's degree from New York University in 1950 and a legal degree from Harvard Law School in 1953. He spent two years as a teaching fellow at Harvard Law School before joining the faculty of University of Iowa College of Law in 1957. He served as a professor at Iowa until 1965.
After leaving Iowa, he became a professor at University of Texas School of Law, where he remained for the rest of his academic career. His work focuses on conflict of laws, contracts, and international litigation and arbitration.
