Law Library Hours

Reference Hours

Reference Service

The Law Library's reference librarians are a resource for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Iowa. Reference librarians can help students get started on their research, better understand legal research tools, and connect them with resources.

Struggling to get started on an assignment that requires legal research? Visit us during our reference hours, call us at 319-335-9005, or email us at lawlib-ref@uiowa.edu.

Electronic Resources

The Law Library and University Libraries have a great collection of electronic resources available to University of Iowa students. A searchable list of our electronic resources is available here. Please connect your laptop and mobile devices to the eduroam wireless network when you are on campus for easier access to electronic resources provided by the Law Library. In particular, the following resources may be helpful to your legal research:

Nexis Uni
Nexis Uni has cases, legislation, and administrative law from the United States and several other countries. Nexis Uni also has law journal articles and legal news.

HeinOnline
HeinOnline contains PDFs of many law journals and historical legal materials.

ProQuest Congressional
ProQuest Congressional is an excellent resource of historic and current U.S. federal government publications. For federal legislative history research, check out ProQuest Legislative Insight.

Checking Out Resources from the Law Library

Because of the types of materials we carry, not everything in the Law Library can be checked out. Books that are not shelf copies or building-only items, however, can be checked out by University of Iowa students. To check out a book or DVD, you can come to the Law Library or request delivery of the item to another on-campus library through InfoHawk+. More information on the Law Library's circulation policies is available here

Student Employment

The Law Library hires undergraduate and graduate students for positions in both circulation and technical services.

The Law Library posts open positions on the University's student employment website Handshake.
